actually some of us use yahoo messenger and there is a chat room feature on there. so if anyone wants to all hook up and chat one of these days just say the word.

I remember when Chris tried something similar on the main page one time, but it must not have worked out well since it's not there. I haven't heard anymore talk about it either. I think it's a semi-okay idea, but maybe only if we can "sign-up" so to speak, so that our screen names can't be used by just anyone. Maybe? :dunno: & moderators would definitely be needed, but that may be a pain to someone after a while...

chris does sooo much already. i think it is a lot to ask of him to also moderate a chat forum. i do remember the one on the main page. wow that was a while ago!!

yea that was back when the main page comments were kind of being used like a chatroom, so I was trying to come up with something that would help that.
The chat idea isn't a bad one, but its not something I really want to implement for full time use. Perhaps for specific times. They tend to use a lot of server resources as well, so I'll have to make sure it doesnt slow down any parts of the site as well..

I didn't even consider the toll it could take on the server. I certainly don't want it to take away from the rest of the site.

yes I have also suggested this idea also I think chatting with someone in real time is great since it does take a while to refresh and wait to see if someone just answered one of your questions, I also agree that it should be a sign in type chat so that others cannot use your name to post something nasty.

members could always choose to host a chat on yahoo conferencing. that way it is OFF your server and the members would need to police themselves :noes:
